Cepton’s Vista-X120 Plus is the world’s slimmest software-definable automotive-grade lidar (light detection and ranging). The Vista-X120 Plus features a longer range, wider field of view (fov)and better accuracy while having a smaller size and better power efficiency. These features will enhance the safety, functionality and autonomy of the upcoming self-driving vehicle and autonomous robots. The Vista-X120 plus features an optomechanical architecture that enhances the durability and reliability of the sensor for harsh automotive applications.
The lidar sensor uses the time-of-flight (ToF) technique to measure the distance of an object from the sensor. Lidars are used in a wide area of applications including distance measurement, object detection, autonomous navigation, aerial surveys, etc.
The company has released the Vista-X120 Plus for mass-market lidar adoption. Compared to the previous generation of lidars, the Vista-X120 Plus offers significantly higher performance and offers up to a 500% increase in data rate. Furthermore, it offers a 30° wider field of view, over 20% reduction in size and a 50% reduction in height. These features make the lidar faster, smaller, and easier to integrate into a vehicle. The low-power sensor consumes less than 18 Watts of energy and is capable of detecting objects at a distance of up to 200 m.
According to the company, the Vista-X120 Plus features a software-definable region of interest (ROI) that allows it to offer higher dynamic perception capabilities. Its tunable central field of view with increased angular resolution enables higher accuracy in the detection and classification of key objects in a given driving scenario. The module measures just 140 (W) x 30 (H) x 150 (D) mm, therefore having a footprint that is ~50% slimmer and smaller than the competition.
