ST launches entry-level mainstream 32-bit MCUs

The STM32C0, ST’s most affordable STM32-based series to date, brings 32-bit processing to cost-sensitive applications that previously relied on 8-bit MCUs. Comprising over a dozen models, the devices are powered by an Arm Cortex-M0+ core running at 48 MHz and include an internal RC oscillator accurate to within ±1% to save on external timing components.

STM32C0 MCUs deliver instruction throughput of 44 DMIPS with CoreMark performance/efficiency of 114, drawing just 80 µA/MHz in run mode. Onboard memory consists of up to 32 kbytes of flash memory and 6 or 12 kbytes of RAM. Integrated peripherals include a 1.7-Msample/s ADC, multiple timers, and DMA controller.

The STM32C0 series offers nine packaging options ranging from 8 to 48 pins and sizes down to 1.70×1.42 mm. Devices use only one pair of external power connections, making more I/O pins available for applications. They can be used in home appliances, industrial pumps, fans, smoke detectors, and other devices typically served by simpler 8-bit and 16-bit MCUs.

According to the manufacturer, the STM32C0 permits design improvements such as faster response, extra functions, and network connection at similar overall cost and power consumption. Further, the microcontrollers are supported by the extensive STM32 development ecosystem.

STM32C0 microcontrollers are now in high-volume production and covered by ST’s 10-year longevity program.
