A dual-channel USB Power Delivery 3.1 protocol decoder, the AP43776Q from Diodes, assists automotive USB device charging systems. The part’s two USB Type-C Power Delivery (PD) ports provide independent charging output voltages for optimized power usage. Further, the device supports Quick Charge 5, Qualcomm’s fast charging protocol.
The AP43776Q integrates an MCU with 12 kB of one-time programmable ROM, plus multi-time programmable ROM blocks for customization. Each PD 3.1 port is fully programmable power supply (PPS) compliant, providing an output voltage range of 3.3 V to 21 V with 20-mV/step and 50-mA/step adjustment.
An I2C interface enables inter-chip communication with DC/DC controllers and converters in the charging system. This simplifies the control loop and lowers overall component costs. Using the UART interface, two AP43776Q devices can be interconnected, so that smart power-sharing is possible across all four of their combined USB ports.
The AEC-Q100 qualified AP43776Q comes in a 20-pin, 4×4-mm W-QFN4040 wettable flank package and costs $1.18 each in lots of 1000 units.
